Grand Rapids, MI – Kenowa Hills Public Schools is excited to announce Bill Dinkelmann as the district’s next Assistant Superintendent. Dinkelmann’s unique and exhaustive list of experience and accomplishments will further strengthen the leadership team at Kenowa Hills.
Bill Dinkelmann joined Kenowa Hills Public Schools as an instructional coach and Competency-based Education Specialist in August of 2019. He has most recently served as the Director of Competency-based Education and Secondary Curriculum. In his support of the Department of Teaching and Learning, he has worked closely with classroom teachers, elementary grade level and secondary department chairs, and members of the district’s administrative team to support a wide variety of district initiatives. Most recently, Dinkelmann has supported the district’s efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and is a member of the District’s Strategic Planning Task Force.
Superintendent Gerald Hopkins stated, “Bill has provided exceptional leadership within the district and across the state, and I have no doubt he will serve the needs of our staff and students in this new endeavor.”
Dinkelmann earned his commission as a Coast Guard Officer and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science from the United States Coast Guard Academy. As an active duty and reserve officer in the Coast Guard, he accrued a wide variety of project and program management experience across administrative and operational sectors that include fixed and floating aids to navigation, search and rescue, fisheries law enforcement, public and legislative affairs, as well as software development, delivery, and training. His 13 years in uniform included assignments at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, onboard the Coast Guard Cutter Sedge in Homer, Alaska, at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as Groups Detroit and Grand Haven here in Michigan.
Since transitioning from military service, Dinkelmann has amassed more than two decades of experience in public school settings across West Michigan. This experience includes roles as a high school science teacher and district technology director for West Ottawa Public Schools, as a science consultant and educational systems analyst for the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, and as National Program Manager at the VanAndel Education Institute. Dinkelmann holds a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Secondary Science Education from Grand Valley State University and is pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University.
Dinkelmann stated, “I’m honored and excited to step into this role at Kenowa Hills as I am committed to the success of all students in our district. I look forward to learning alongside and supporting our remarkable staff and the entire Knight community in the years ahead!”
In his spare time, Bill keeps tabs on West Michigan’s dynamic weather as a self-described weather geek and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities that include hiking, kayaking, and exploring our Nation’s National Parks with his wife of 26 years (Lori) and their children, Kayley and Connor.
